01 The short version
Lookup helps you spend less time in the apps that pull you in. It runs on Apple's Screen Time framework (Family Controls and Device Activity) on your iPhone. By design, your blocking and usage data is handled by iOS on your device. We keep only a small account profile so your name and preferences follow you if you sign in again. We do not run ads, we do not track you across other apps, and we do not sell your data.
02 What stays on your device
The following is read and used on your iPhone through Apple's frameworks. It is not sent to us and we cannot see it:
- Screen Time and app usage. Which apps you open and for how long, your pickups, notifications, and hour-by-hour activity. Apple gives Lookup this through the Screen Time framework as on-device data.
- The apps and categories you block. Your selections come from Apple's app picker as opaque tokens. Even Lookup cannot read the real names behind them; they only work on your device.
- Your rules. Sessions, focus hours, limits, good-app-first unlocks, health goals, and Strict Mode settings.
- Apple Health readings. If you set a Health Goal rule, Lookup reads targets such as steps, distance, or exercise minutes to check whether the goal is met. This is read on your device only.
- Your reflections. Notes on how a session felt and what made you open an app.
This information lives in the app on your phone and is removed when you delete the app.
03 What we store
So you can have an account and carry a small profile between devices, we store a minimal amount of information in our secure database (hosted on Google Firebase):
- Sign-in details, such as your email address or your Apple sign-in identifier.
- Your name, if you choose to add one.
- Your screen-time goal and basic app preferences, such as appearance.
That is the whole of it. We do not upload your usage, your rules, your blocked apps, or your Health data.
04 Permissions we ask for
- Screen Time (Family Controls). Required. It lets Lookup shield the apps you choose and read your usage on the device. You grant it once and can turn it off in iOS Settings.
- Apple Health. Optional, read-only. Used only by Health Goal rules to check an activity target you set. You choose which readings to share.
- Notifications. Optional. Used for block alerts, reminders, and a heads-up before a free trial ends.
You can change or withdraw any permission at any time in your device settings.
05 Subscriptions and payments
Purchases and free trials are processed by Apple through the App Store, and managed for us by RevenueCat. Apple handles your payment. We never see or store your card details. RevenueCat tells us whether your subscription is active, using an anonymous identifier, so the app can unlock the right features. That is the only purchase information that reaches us.
06 Third-party services
- Apple. Screen Time, Family Controls, Device Activity, and Apple Health run on your device under Apple's privacy terms. The App Store processes purchases.
- Google Firebase. Stores your account and small profile, and provides sign-in.
- RevenueCat. Manages subscription state on our behalf.
We do not include advertising SDKs or third-party analytics that profile you across other apps or websites.
07 What we never do
- We never sell or rent your personal data.
- We never show you ads or share your data with ad networks.
- We never track you across other apps or websites for advertising.
- We never upload the list of apps you block or your Screen Time and Health data to our servers.
08 Your control
You are in charge of your data:
- Edit or delete your profile from the Profile tab inside the app.
- Remove all on-device data by deleting the app.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store settings.
- Ask us anything about your data by emailing hello@getlookup.net.
09 How long we keep it
We keep your small account profile for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we remove that profile from our database. On-device data is kept on your phone until you delete the app, and is never held by us.
10 Children
Lookup is intended for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, email us and we will remove it.
11 Changes and contact
We may update this policy from time to time, and we will note significant changes in the app. If you have any question about your data, email hello@getlookup.net and a real person will reply.
